The Sustainable Winegrowing Australia Program

Sustainable Winegrowing Australia is the Australian grape and wine sector’s sustainability program. It’s a voluntary program designed with flexibility to suit the changing goals and needs of all Australian grape and wine producers, providing information for wine industry research, development and extension activities.

Project Objectives

Sustainable Winegrowing Australia provides grape and wine producers the ability to annually report business metrics and complete a workbook of vineyard or winery practice. The objective of the program is to cover the fundamental components of sustainability (environmental, social and economic) and can be applied to both the vineyard and winery.

“I love it! It’s streamlined administration so much. Everyone, from students to instructors, has told us how much easier it is to use.”

Managing the Change Process

The SWA program is managed by AWRI, with strategic direction from a steering committee of representatives from the AWRI, Wine Australia and Australian Grape & Wine. Further industry input is provided by a Sustainability Advisory Committee (SAC) which includes program users, regional representatives and other key stakeholders.

Creating A Custom Solution

Working with the client, Arris developed a single, united program for all Australian grape and wine producers that builds on the strengths of the previous Sustainable Australian Winegrowing (SAW) and Entwine Australia programs.

The program provides benchmarking tools and resources to enable planning, evaluation, control and communication.

The Results

Working closely with our client, The Australian Wine Research Institute (AWRI), we’ve successfully launched the newly developed on-line platform Sustainable Winegrowing Australia.

The web application we delivered is a flexible system that can be adapted to respond to the needs of the growing organisation and benefits growers and wine producers Australia wide.
